Helena Valley sits below the scarp on the Helena River flats and is named on primary sources among the localities at the Darling Scarp's western edge. The terrain above it drops away sharply, which is the Gooseberry Hill side of the story, and the valley itself is the flatter ground at the bottom.
Housing here runs from older stock to newer estate building, so the roof age varies more street to street than it does in the villages.
We connect you with roof restoration specialists who work the Foothills suburbs below the scarp, where most of the stock is 1960s and 1970s project housing.
What a restoration involves
- Pressure clean to strip moss and the chalky remains of the original tile surface
- Replace cracked or broken tiles, sourced to match the existing profile
- Repoint the ridge and hip capping with modern flexible pointing
- Apply primer and two coats of roof membrane in your chosen colour
On guide pricing only, and from Australian cost guides rather than Perth rates, a full restoration on a typical Hills home usually lands in the thousands. See the cost guide for what moves the number.
Which blocks are on sewer, and which are not
Helena Valley is one of the four localities the Shire of Mundaring's local planning strategy named as having unsewered residential areas, alongside Swan View, Greenmount and Boya, and the Shire recommended lobbying for reticulated sewerage to be extended to them. So it depends on the address, not the suburb.
Where a block runs its own on-site effluent disposal system, the practical consequence for roofing is the downpipe discharge and where spoil can be stacked. The Water Corporation confirms sewer availability for an address and the Shire holds the system records.
Frequently asked questions
Newer house, do I still need a restoration?
If the roof is under twenty years old, probably not a full restoration. A clean, a gutter check and the valleys cleared is often all it needs, and a roofer should tell you that rather than selling you a coating.
Why does the quote mention the valleys so much?
Because the valley is where debris and water meet. Clear valleys and sound valley irons prevent more leaks up here than any other single thing.
Can a roofer deal with the gutters and the roof in one visit?
Usually, and it is the cheaper way to do it, because the access equipment is already set up. Ask for both on the one quote.
