Mundaring is the Shire's town and, in one specific respect, the exception to everything around it. The Shire's own local planning strategy records that in the hills portion of the Shire, only the Mundaring town centre has access to reticulated sewerage, and that it is likely most of the Shire will not be able to connect.
Everything else about Mundaring is hills. Large blocks, mature jarrah and marri, and a planning strategy that sets out to keep the area as a series of discreet villages separated by rural buffers.
We connect you with roof restoration specialists who work the Hills villages and know what a mature jarrah and marri canopy does to a tile roof.
What a restoration involves
- Clear the valleys and gutters of bark, leaf and marri nuts, then pressure clean the whole roof
- Replace cracked and broken tiles, including anything a dropped limb has gone through
- Repoint the ridge and hip lines with flexible pointing compound
- Seal and coat with a membrane that resists regrowth on the shaded pitch
On guide pricing only, and from Australian cost guides rather than Perth rates, a full restoration on a typical Hills home usually lands in the thousands. See the cost guide for what moves the number.
Sewered in the centre, on-site everywhere else
If you are in the town centre, you are probably on sewer. Step outside it and the property is running its own septic tank and leach drains or a secondary treatment system, sometimes called an ATU or an aerated wastewater treatment system, and the tank, the drains and the disposal area are all on your ground. That changes where a downpipe can discharge and where spoil can be stacked during the work.
The other thing worth knowing about Mundaring is the catchment. The Shire sits across gazetted public water supply catchments including the Mundaring Weir catchment, and the Water Corporation monitors development within such areas. It does not stop a roof being cleaned. It does mean asking the contractor where the wash water will go.
Frequently asked questions
Am I on sewer or on a septic system?
If you are not in the town centre, most likely a septic or secondary treatment system. The Water Corporation confirms whether an address can connect, and the Shire holds the records of the installed system.
Does the catchment affect a roof clean?
Not in the sense of stopping it. It means a contractor should be able to tell you how they are managing the wash water, and the Shire and the Water Corporation are the ones who can say what applies at your address.
What is the most common job on a Mundaring roof?
Clearing valleys and gutters, then repointing. The canopy fills the valleys and the sixty-year-old mortar on the older stock has cracked.
